Museo del Automóvil / The Automobile Museum

The Málaga City Council plans to house in one of the refurbished buildings of the old Tabacalera what will be the Automobile Museum, in which over one hundred classic automobiles of the XIX and XX Century will be on show. The museum will have a hall for a permanent collection and another for temporary exhibitions.

The models which will be exhibited date from 1898 – 1980. The museum will measure 5,600 metres squared and will house in its interior over a hundred luxury antique cars from the collection of Joao Magalhaes. Every car will be exhibited with objects from its period, among which 500 womens are especially striking. Joao Magalhaes fascination with cars began half a century ago and since then he has brought together over one hundred old luxury vehicles. This portuguese lover of automobiles offered his collection to the spanish Minister of Culture two years ago and finally Málaga will house the Magalhaes collection.
The permanent collection hall will be divided into sections : La Belle Epoch (1898 – 1916); the Golden Twenties; Art Deco (1930); Dolce Vita (1950); English Tradition (1920 – 1954); Eccentricity (1914 – 1962); Popular Cars (1920 – 1967) and Dream Cars (1940 – 1980). The chronological exhibition will begin with a Winner Horseless from 1898 and will conclude with an Eldorado Cadillac from 1972.
